Dry Bones

How fitting it seems to me that this week's lectionary includes the text from Ezekiel (Ezekiel 37: 1-14.) My husband and I are continuing our journey of mutual unemployment. We feel somewhat like those dried up old bones. We both feel as though we have been chewed up, spit out and left to die-- he by the corporate world and myself by church bureaucracy. With each ignored resume these bones become drier and more brittle.  With each rejection, the dust settles more deeply. As more time goes by the valley feels lower, sinking with our spirits.

Will God breathe life into these old bones?  Will he lay sinews and flesh on them and cover them with skin?

Lord, please put your spirit within us that we might live and know that you have spoken and will act.
